Driving for Work: Awareness and Safety Elearning

According to the Department for Transport 68.3% of accidents are caused by driver error with over 50% of accidents being caused by the driver/rider failing to look properly or being careless, reckless or in a hurry.

No one ever thinks a road collision will be their accident — until it is. Driving is still one of the most dangerous things people do, yet we often take for granted just how important it is to stay alert and focused. Once you’ve passed your driving test, it can be easy to relax and slip into a cognitive autopilot. Fatigue, complacency and distractions can all increase your chances of having an accident, even long after getting your license.

Even if you do stay alert, accidents can still happen. Your vehicle needs checking, the way you manoeuvre can put you and others at risk, and the conditions (or other drivers) around you can all impact on your safety.

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) requires employers to ensure the safety of their employees when driving for work whilst the Road Traffic Act (1988) covers general safety when driving on the road.
